New research from Willis Towers Watson surveyed 15,700 members of DB schemes who have been offered independent financial advice at the expense of their pension scheme's sponsoring employer since April 2015. All of these members were aged 55 or over but had not started drawing their pension. Of those surveyed, 50% took up the offer to speak to a financial adviser and 36% of the people who did speak to an an adviser chose to transfer out of their DB scheme.

According to a Citizens Advice report, 10.9 million consumers have received unsolicited contact about their pension since the freedoms were introduced in April 2015. The report also shows an alarming lack of knowledge amongst savers. In an experiment in which research participants were shown mock advice adverts, 88% of  those surveyed selected a fraudulent pension advice offer.
