The higher education community is markedly more confident than the US workforce at large about the prospect of a financially secure retirement, according to a new survey released by the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association - College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA-CREF) Institute. 26% of college and university employees (including faculty, administration, and other staff) are very confident that they will have enough money to live comfortably throughout retirement, compared with only 10% of US workers. In addition, 54% of higher education workers are somewhat confident compared with 38% of all workers.

According to a report published by TIAA-CREF, the financial services organization and leading provider of retirement security in the academic, medical and cultural fields, faculty in higher education are more confident regarding their retirement savings preparations than individuals in the general working population. The research found that 95% of faculty have personally saved for retirement and 66% have tried to determine how much they need to save in order to fund a comfortable retirement. This compares with only 25% of all working Americans who say they are very confident that they will have enough money in retirement.
