TheCity UK's Pension Markets research has found that global pension assets rose by 3% in 2011 to $30.9trn. According to the research, UK pension assets totalled $3trn in 2011, which accounted for 10% of global pension assets, whilst US pension assets stood at $17.4trn and made up 58% of the global total.

TheCityUK has published its Fund Management report for 2011, which estimates that global pension assets reached $29.9trn at the end of 2010. The report finds that the UK pension system had assets equivalent to 113% of GDP in 2010.

According to research by TheCityUK, global pension assets are estimated to have grown by 8% to $31.1trn in 2010. The results also reveal a marked improvement in the funding position of UK companies' DB schemes, which moved from a deficit of £201bn in 2009 to a surplus of £22bn in 2010.
