The PPF and TPR have published the eleventh edition of the Purple Book, which monitors the risks faced by 5,794 DB pension schemes throughout the UK. According to the findings on scheme funding, the aggregate deficit on a s179 basis fell slightly from £244.2bn at the end of March 2015 to £221.7bn at the end of March 2016, whilst the aggregate funding ratio rose from 84.2% to 85.8%.

According to the Purple Book, the percentage of schemes closed to new members fell from 53% in 2014 to 51%, while the percentage of schemes closed to future accruals rose from 32% to 34%.
