A report by the Scottish Government Expert Working Group on Welfare has called for a 'transitional period' whereby the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) would continue to help administer state pensions in Scotland for two or three years after Scottish independence. The report claims that creating a new system immediately after independence would jeopardise payments to pensioners in Scotland and those in England whose payments are processed at the DWP offices in Scotland.
