According to Pyramis Global Advisors' 2010 Global Defined Benefit Survey, respondents in the US, Canada and Europe said that the main lessons they learned from the financial crisis of 2008-2009 were the need for more downside protection (62%), improved risk management (54%), a better match of assets and liabilities (49%), and a realisation that they were less diversified than they thought (42%).

Pyramis Global Advisors has published its Pension Insight results, which compare the performance and trends of public and corporate defined benefit plans. The survey reveals that corporations are moving their assets more toward fixed income, while public funds are shifting their assets towards international equities. Around two thirds (65%) of respondents said that they are re-evaluating their asset allocations in response to the financial crisis.
