According to research from Portus, 53% of people are still unsure of the tax rules relating to taking cash out of pensions. The research also found that of those who think they understand, 9% believe that any cash taken from a pension is taxed, 5% think that all cash taken is tax free and 6% believe that you can take 25% of your pension pot tax free annually.

Research from Portus has revealed that 14% of employed over-55s believe they have been targeted by a pension scam since the reforms in April. The most common method of contact used by potential scammers was by email according to 36% of respondents, followed by phone (33%) and post (28%).
