These findings show that, frequently, both members of the smallest two member defined contribution schemes are either a scheme trustee or a director of the company. The researcher says a lighter regulatory touch may be appropriate when dealing with these very small schemes.

The survey found that all live defined-benefit and hybrid occupational pension schemes surveyed had appointed a scheme auditor and scheme actuary. A minority of small and medium sized live defined contribution schemes however had not appointed a scheme auditor.
