According to the NAPF, 56% of defined contribution savers aged 55-70 have yet to decide how to convert their pension pot into an income or are waiting to see how the market develops before they make a decision. The research also found that 70% of those surveyed intend to leave some or all of their pension savings invested, 48% want to take some or all of their savings as cash and 24% intend to purchase an annuity.

The NAPF has published new research which examines the expectations and the reality of retirement today for those who have recently retired and those coming up to retirement in the next 20 years. The research found that 21% of over 50 year olds planned to seek advice from friends and family, either exclusively or as part of a range of sources, to help them make decisions about their finances in retirement.

The NAPF has published its 2014 Annual Survey looking into how the UK workplace pension scheme landscape has changed from 1975 to today. The survey found that 50% of DB schemes are open to future accrual among private and other public sector schemes and only 8% of private sector DB schemes were still open to new members this year compared to 12% in 2013.

The NAPF has released the first results of its new research series ‘Understanding Retirement’. The results show that 35% of retired people aged 50-70 are below the state pension age. The research also found that over 30% of 'non-retired' people in this age bracket are not working.
