Jun 2004 Europe (including EU) Investment - Management
Almost three quarters of fund management groups say that the growing number of hedge funds, to some extent, will be taking market share from traditional funds going forward. Only a quarter say hedge funds will not take market share from more traditional products. 53% of fund groups participating in this month’s survey say they are currently offering hedge funds and half of the fund groups say they will have these products within a year. Some fund groups mention current legislation as a reason not to launch hedge funds. It also seems that most of the fund groups are looking to offer funds of hedge funds rather than single strategy funds. When asked what they thought would be the most popular hedge fund strategies in the coming year, 22 fund groups said long short or market neutral. Another nine mentioned multi-strategy or funds of hedge funds as the most popular.
