This research reveals that approximately £4.3 billion of shareholders’ funds are tied up with UK non-life companies whose businesses are entirely in run-off. The term run-off refers to insurance companies which continue to operate by paying out or settling claims, but are no longer active in accepting new business.

This research shows that an overwhelming majority of countries - over 90% of a total 59 countries surveyed - intend to converge with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The findings also found that 72% of countries intending to move towards IFRS have a formal policy in place to achieve this, in most cases aimed initially at listed companies.
