According to a survey of 100 independent financial advisers (IFAs) by Investec Private Bank, investors believe that returns on self-invested personal pensions (SIPP) and small self-administered schemes (SSAS) are too low. Only 39% said that the rate of return on the cash element of a SIPP is acceptable, with 37% saying the same for SSAS rates.

Research conducted for Investec Private Bank reveals that more than a quarter (27%) of pensions advisers think that attempts to simplify the sector have been a hindrance to consumers, with many claiming that it has in fact made the process more complicated. The findings come on the back of the Government’s drive in April last year to simplify the taxation of pensions and offer less complex and more flexible retirement arrangements for individuals and employers as part of A Day.
