According to a survey by Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, 54% of the UK’s largest companies support the Government’s decision to phase out the default retirement age (DRA), with 45% agreeing that the Government was right to enact the new legislation from 6 April 2011 rather than wait until the economy is more stable. However, 68% said that the removal of the DRA had more potential to hinder economic recovery and job creation in the short term in comparison with other legislative changes.
