An overview of premiums and indexation
Dutch Association of Industry-wide Pension Funds
Feb 2004 Netherlands Scheme Issues & Trends
This overview of premiums and indexation shows pension premiums in 2004 are increasingly at cost covering levels. Indexation levels are restricted to 1.6% on average. 97% of current pension payouts are wholly or partially index linked. Pension funds have been forced to push up premiums and curb indexation percentages in order to bolster their financial position. Their financial ratios had been pressured by the rising wage levels of the late 1990s, low interest rates, falling share prices and low premiums. The funds report cover ratios (the ratio of assets to nominal pension commitments) of 111.2% on average at year end 2003
