According to the latest Local Government Pension Scheme statistics produced by Communities and Local Government, Local Government Pension Scheme expenditure on benefits in 2007-08 was £5.2bn, compared with £4.8bn in 2006-07; income from employees' contributions to the Local Government Pension Scheme in 2007-08 was nearly £1.7bn, an increase of 5% on 2006-07 and income from employers' contributions to the scheme rose by 8% to £5bn in the same period.
