Apr 2009 United Kingdom Taxation, Pension Reform
A report from liberal think tank CentreForum has set out proposals for a new pension scheme that it claims could stimulate the economy and rescue the housing market, all at negligible cost to the taxpayer. Under the proposed scheme, lump sums built up to date could be used for a number of purposes including clearing mortgage arrears or putting a deposit down on a house. This approach would avoid adding to Government borrowing, which is under severe constraints at present, and provide a boost to the economy.
