For the first time the Irish Central Statistics Office (CSO) has published its Estimates of Irish Pension Liabilities 2015, in which it collated data on occupational pension schemes to reveal the liabilities of private employers and government based upon the pension benefits accrued by households by the end of 2015. It found that at that time Ireland's total accrued-to-date pension liability amounted to 436.3bn or 167% of GDP, with 345.5bn of that amount relating to government managed schemes.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has published a report on the income of the elderly population in 2004 and 2009. The report reveals that the gross weekly income of those aged 65 and over stood at €428.86 in 2009, up from €289.05 in 2004.

A report published by the Central Statistics Office Ireland (CSO) has shown that 11% of the population (467,900 persons) were aged 65 & over in 2006, well below the EU average of nearly 17%. The report also shows that between 1996 and 2005 there was a considerable shift from state non-contributory pensions to state contributory pensions. 72% of state pensions were contributory by 2005, compared with just 58% in 1996.
