Public Sector Pensions - A Massive Cost that Taxpayers Need to Understand
Public Sector Pensions - A Massive Cost that Taxpayers Need to Understand
CBI
15 Dec 2008 United Kingdom Surpluses and Deficits, State Pensions, Scheme Design (inc. DB & DC), Pension Reform, Funding and Minimum Funding Requirement
The Government must come clean to taxpayers about the ballooning cost of public sector pensions, which are running up a trillion pound tab, the CBI has warned in a report. The group is calling for an independent commission to examine the financial rules, costs, and levels of taxpayer subsidy that underpin public sector pensions. Its findings would then be a starting point for a debate on much-needed reform of the pension schemes, the majority of which are not funded by any pension “pot” and will place a massive and growing burden on future taxpayers.
