According to research commissioned by the Brotherhood of St Lawrence and carried out by the National Centre for Social and Economic Modelling (NATSEM), most age pensioners had lower overall incomes than average, but 2% of age pensioners, 51,200 people, were in the highest income quartile. The study said that the age pension is not well targeted in terms of wealth - half of age pensioners live in a household in the top half of the wealth range.
