According to a survey by Baring Asset Management, 83% of pension funds now have exposure to multi-asset strategies, an increase from 70% six months ago and 65% a year ago. The majority (60%) of managers who recently changed the asset allocation of their funds did so to reduce volatility, while 40% did so to match assets to liabilities more effectively.

An online poll of UK pension professionals by Baring Asset Management (Barings) has found that the number of respondents citing greater asset diversification as a principal tactic for dealing with market volatility has increased from 47.6% to 63.8% over the past six months. Reviewing the investment portfolio more regularly is a tactic employed by 51.1% of respondents in an attempt to protect against volatility, while 34% are moving asset allocations to multi asset products.
